Last evening, Calday Grange Grammar School’s auditorium was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the much-anticipated annual House Music Concert. The event, which showcased the winners of the House Music Competition, turned out to be a spectacular celebration of musical diversity and talent, drawing in a large crowd of parent and students, all eager to support their houses and enjoy an evening of exceptional performances.

The concert kicked off with a rousing rendition of “Proud Mary” by the Hollowell Ensemble, setting a high bar for the evening. A particularly notable debut came from the intermediate guitar group, who chose “Wipe Out” and the iconic “Game of Thrones Theme” for their first-ever performance. The young guitarists displayed remarkable skill and coordination, earning them a standing ovation from the appreciative audience.

The house choirs, representing the three houses of Calday Grange, each took to the stage to perform their chosen pieces. Their harmonies and the sheer variety of their musical selections showcased the wide range of vocal talents within the school, contributing to the event’s atmosphere of camaraderie and friendly competition.

However, the highlight of the night was undeniably the show-stopping performance by the Hollowell Senior Rock Band. Their renditions of “White Room” and “Layla” were not just performances but experiences, drawing the audience into a world where classic rock reigned supreme. The band’s technical prowess on their instruments, combined with their palpable passion for the music, resulted in a performance that was both electrifying and emotionally resonant.

The concert concluded with the winning house, Bennett’s Choir rendition of “Don’t Stop Believin” leaving the evening on a high note, with participants and audience members alike basking in the glow of shared musical joy. Mrs Gilbertt and Mrs Powell expressed their heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to show their support, emphasising that the success of the event was a testament to the community’s strong spirit of encouragement and appreciation for the arts.

Last night’s House Music Concert at Calday Grange Grammar School was more than just a competition; it was a vibrant celebration of the school’s musical talent and a showcase of the students’ hard work and dedication.
