In an outstanding display of athleticism and sportsmanship, the Calday running team made their mark at the esteemed King Henry relay race in Coventry this past Wednesday. This event, renowned as the premier inter-schools relay race in the nation, has been a fixture in the athletic calendar since 1972, showcasing the talents of young athletes, including luminaries such as Seb Coe and the Brownlee brothers, Alistair & Jonathan.

The Calday boys, demonstrating exemplary behaviour both on and off the track, ran with determination and grace. Their efforts not only showcased their athletic prowess but also their commendable conduct, earning them praise as true ambassadors of their school.

The competition was fierce, with 56 boy’s teams from across the UK vying for top honours. The Calday A team, comprising Alex P, Louis H, Tom C, Oscar K, Jamie B and Josh H, delivered a remarkable performance, securing the 9th position overall. Their achievement was particularly noteworthy as they emerged as the fastest boy’s team from the Wirral, outpacing local rivals St Anselm’s and Wirral Grammar, who placed 11th and 12th respectively. Alex P stood out with the 7th fastest lap of the day, a remarkable feat among 336 runners.

Not to be outdone, the Calday B team, featuring Will H, Tom S, Finley M, Charlie B, William M and Charlie G also put on a strong showing. They ranked as the 9th B team and 40th overall, underscoring the depth of talent and commitment within the Calday running programme.
