F1 in Schools is an international STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) competition for school children (aged 11–19), in which groups of 3–6 students have to design and manufacture a miniature car out of the official F1 Model Block using CAD/CAM design tools.

Calday’s F1 in Schools team 6 Gears was formed in January 2019. Since then they have competed in the entry class and won regional finals with the fastest car. Consequently, they were invited to the F1 in Schools Nationals as VIPs but unfortunately, this was virtual due to lockdown and entered into the Development class in 2020.

In the same fashion, 6 Gears again competed in the Northern Regionals and gained a place at Nationals for 2021 which will be held virtually again. 6 Gears have just finalised their portfolios and car and are now looking forward to competing this year.

The search for the next F1 in schools team will start soon and hopefully, be open to Year 7 and 8 students to compete next year.
