The Bennett Trust
The Trustees can give assistance in cases of hardship to parents/carers of children from families of limited means, larger families or those with particular financial problems. Grants may be made in special cases of any kind not normally provided by the Local Authority and in some circumstances funds may be available for those students who have recently left school to help them in their chosen careers or in Further or Higher Education, provided they are less than 25 years of age.
Applications can be made at any time in confidence.
Free School Meals
In England, a Free School Meal (FSM) is a statutory benefit available to school-aged children from families who receive other qualifying benefits and who have been through the relevant registration process.
To find out if your child is eligible for free school meals please click on the link below:

FSM at Calday:
What are the free school meal options?
Your child will be eligible to a free meal entitlement including a choice of sandwiches, a hot meal of the day, pizza, pasta, curry and vegetarian options. Students will be provided with a daily allowance on their student ID Cards. If your son does not wish to use their allowance at lunchtime it can be used at break time when there are a variety of breakfast options available such as toast, breakfast wraps and fresh fruit.
Does my child have to eat the free school meals?
Students who are registered for free school meals do not have to take up this offer each day. If you are eligible but you want your child to have a packed lunch that is ok however we do recommend that you still register.
How do I register?
You only need to register once at each school should you have children in other schools. If your son already receives free school meals you do not need to take any further action. Registering for free school meals is confidential and is administered discreetly at the School.
You no longer have to apply to the Local Authority. You can either register directly online at https://www.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/sims-wirral/
The process is straightforward. If your son is eligible for free school meals because you are in receipt of Universal Credit, there is transitional protection in place whilst it is being rolled out. They will continue to be eligible for free school meals until the end of their phase of secondary education even if your circumstances change. For exceptions please refer to www.gov.uk and search for free school meals.
What happens next?
Once you have submitted an eligibility registration we are notified whether you are eligible for pupil premium and free school meals or not and we will let you know. Your son will be issued a free school meal allowance on a daily basis to use in the School canteen. Please note that the allowance is re-set daily and balances do not accumulate so it is in your son’s best interest to use their entitlement each day. The current daily value of free school meals is £3.80.
