Around 800 of our students use some form of public transport to get to Calday Grange Grammar School.
Responsibility for many of the school bus services rests with Merseytravel. However, we have been proactive in making the school accessible for students living in other areas. We work closely with local transport providers to ensure safe, reliable transport for students from Wallasey, Chester and beyond.
Staff are on duty to supervise students in the morning when they arrive at school and again at the end of the day to ensure they safely board the correct bus. Students are expected to abide by the school travel code of conduct.
Support with the cost of travel on these buses is available.
We encourage students to walk or cycle when possible. This allows students to gain independence and physical fitness levels are linked to positive health outcomes. We have a secure, covered bike rack at the front of school where students may leave their (locked) bicycles. Please note that bicycles are left at the owner’s risk.
Our School site is extremely busy at the start and end of the day with large numbers of buses on Column Road and Grammar School Lane. The safety of students is a top priority for the school community.
We ask that if students are brought to school by car that parents follow our guidelines with regards to dropping off and picking up safely. Adherence to these guidelines is a shared responsibility among parents, staff, and visitors.
- Students must not be dropped off or picked up on the yellow zig zag lines outside school.
- Parents are encouraged to arrange a drop off/collection point some distance from the school in a less congested area and have students walk the remaining distance to and from school.
- We request that parents do not drop off or collect their children within the school car park except for students with mobility issues.
- Visitors may use the main car park during the school day.
- We encourage all visitors to park sensibly and not block access for residents living near the school.
- Students, staff and visitors are encourage to use the designated footpaths around the school.
There is a good network of public transport and train links to West Kirby. Trains from Birkenhead and Wallasey take approximately 30 minutes to reach the station in West Kirby. Public buses stop in West Kirby and Newton.
