Five students from Calday Grammar School that are part of the brass ensemble, Wirral Youth Brass, were given the amazing opportunity to take part in the Brass Band Festival and perform at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. They enjoyed watching the RNCM Brass Band perform, before taking to the stage and performing both as the ‘Wirral Youth Brass’ and then joining over a hundred other brass band players from the North West. The concert culminated in a spectacular performance of Prismatic Light under the baton of Simon Cowen, principal Trombone at the RLPO.
‘The experience at the Royal Northern College of Music was incredibly fun and fascinating. The atmosphere was amazing and I loved performing in a brass band and listening to the music we were making. I also loved listening to the RNCM brass band as they were very talented. Overall, it was an amazing experience and it will be a memory I will keep forever.’
Wirral Youth Brass meet once a fortnight in Eastham. The ensemble is run by brass players from the RLPO. They are also running a summer course. If this is something your son/daughter would like to be involved in, please email: wirralyouthbrass@gmail.com
Below are some comments from the students who took part in this event.
‘I have loved being given the amazing opportunities and experience by the RLPO players at Wirral Youth Brass. They have put so much time, effort and enthusiasm into giving young musicians of all abilities the chance to perform and learn from them. The engage project run by the RNCM has only helped drive this further and provided another great opportunity to perform and learn from other musicians.’
