Last evening, Calday transformed into an enchanting musical paradise as it hosted the eagerly awaited “Winter Sounds” carol concert. This standout event in the school’s yearly calendar featured a diverse lineup of performances from the school band, wind band, jazz band, and a variety of choirs, weaving a captivating musical narrative.

The concert opened with a candlelit performance by the Year 13 students, demonstrating their impressive musical talent and enthusiasm. Their opening act set a joyful and expectant mood throughout the auditorium.

Next, the Calday Choir took the stage, mesmerising the audience with their harmonious melodies. The rich combination of flutes, clarinets, oboes, and other instruments crafted a sonorous soundscape that filled the crowded hall with beauty.

The first segment concluded with a communal rendition of ‘Hark the Herald’, uniting everyone in a festive spirit.

Following a brief intermission, brimming with holiday treats, the Year 7 Choir reinvigorated the audience with a lively performance of ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’. This was succeeded by a stirring rendition of ‘Walking in the Air’ from The Snowman, featuring three soloists that left the audience spellbound.

Adding to the night’s excitement, the jazz band delivered a dynamic version of ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’. Their energetic rhythms had the audience tapping along, showcasing the depth of talent among the students.

The concert reached its zenith with a grand finale that brought all performers together. This joint performance symbolised the unity and spirit within the school community and left the audience in awe of the students’ and teachers’ musical prowess and dedication.

“Winter Sounds” was more than a mere concert; it was a celebration of the unifying power of music, creating memories that will last long after the final note had faded. As the attendees departed with beaming smiles and cherished memories, the atmosphere was abuzz with excitement and a renewed appreciation for the musical arts at Calday Grange Grammar School.
