Calday Grange Grammar School welcomed Super Flyweight Champion Brandon Daord for a visit, on the 12th March, that left a strong impression on students and staff alike. The professional boxer from Birkenhead spent the afternoon meeting pupils, sharing stories from his career, and speaking openly about the challenges he has faced on his way to the top.
Brandon spoke movingly about the influence of his Nan, describing her as a constant source of support throughout his life. He credited her with keeping him grounded and focused, particularly in the early stages of his boxing journey. Her encouragement, he said, helped him stay committed through the intense training and discipline needed to compete professionally.
Speaking to a group of Year 7 pupils, Brandon took time to sign autographs and pose for photos. His relaxed manner and willingness to engage made a strong impression on the younger students, many of whom were meeting a professional athlete for the first time. He answered questions about his training routine, how he handles setbacks, and what it takes mentally and physically to prepare for a fight.
Later in the visit, Brandon gave a short demonstration with Year 10 pupil Riley McD who himself has competed in several boxing bouts outside of school. The session gave students a glimpse of the technical skill involved in the sport and highlighted the level of control and fitness required to perform at an elite level.
The school described the visit as a valuable opportunity for students to hear directly from someone who has worked hard to succeed in a demanding field. Brandon’s message was clear: talent helps, but hard work, focus and resilience are what really count.
