The Drama Department had the privilege of performing their interpretation of the classic tale, Peter Pan, for the Mayor of Wirral on Tuesday 21st March, at the Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton. The school also gave away 1300 tickets to local primary schools, providing a unique opportunity for younger audiences to experience the magic of live theatre.
The school’s production of Peter Pan, which has been adapted and directed by ex-Head of English, Mr Randall Lewton, had been in the works for months, with students and teachers working tirelessly to bring the story of Peter, Wendy, and the Lost Boys to life. The performance was a resounding success, with the audience swept away by the enchanting world of Neverland.
“We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to perform for the Mayor of Wirral and share our interpretation of Peter Pan with local primary schools,” said drama teacher, Mr Rob Kavanagh, “Our students have worked incredibly hard to put on a fantastic performance, and we are delighted that so many people were able to enjoy it at school and at the Floral Pavilion.”
Headteacher Mr Stephen Gray added, “At Calday Grange Grammar School, we believe in the power of the arts to inspire and educate, and we are proud to have provided local primary schools with an opportunity to experience live theatre. We hope that this will inspire a new generation of theatre-goers and ignite a passion for the arts.”
The school’s production of Peter Pan marks the end of another successful season of drama at Calday Grange Grammar School, which also featured a performance of Macbeth last November. The final curtain falling on this term’s show brings to a close a period of hard work, dedication, and creativity from students and teachers alike.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and the commitment they have shown to the production of Peter Pan,” said Mr Gray, “Their hard work has paid off, and we hope that they will continue to pursue their passions and excel in all areas of their education.”
Calday Grange Grammar School’s Drama Department is already planning their next production, and the school looks forward to bringing more theatre to the wider community in the future.
