On Saturday 16th March, Jack W. (Y9) and Sol C. (Y7) represented Calday Grange Grammar School at the North West Ski Federation schools race at Pendle Dry ski slope in Lancashire, which is the home slope of GB racers, Dave ‘Rocket’ Ryding, Rob Holmes and Charlotte Holmes.
116 skiers from primary through to 6th Form schools across the North West competed in individual timed races and also school teams (of 3-4 skiers). Many children experiencing their first ski race and as always Pendle ski club and their wonderful team of volunteers provided meticulous organisation, race commentary and the legendary BBQ and pies.
The lower senior boys (years 7-9) category was a large and competitive group and some superb skiing from Jack W. saw him placed 6th, only 0.36 of a second behind the top 3!
Sol C. also displayed some great skiing, improving his second run time by almost 2 seconds.
The final races of the day which were mixed teams (children from different schools and age groups) for the head-to-head dual Slalom which were fiercely fought with some nail biting finishes. Sol C. and his team were successful in gaining the first place after the elimination rounds and being awarded the much coveted prize of Easter eggs.
A huge thank you to Pendle Ski Club for hosting the event.
