This past weekend marked a significant milestone for Calday Grange Grammar School’s athletics program, particularly in the realm of cross country running. Our school had the honour of sending two talented teams to compete in the prestigious English Schools National Cross Country Cup, held at The Woodbridge School in Suffolk.

Despite facing a challenging and icy course, our Senior team demonstrated exceptional skill and determination. Competing against a strong field of 27 teams from across the country, they secured an impressive 7th place finish. A special commendation goes to Alex Poulston, who achieved an outstanding 3rd place in the individual rankings among 162 senior runners. This is a testament to his dedication and hard work in preparation for the event.

Our Junior team, participating in their first national final, also showed great promise and resilience. They finished 26th, an admirable achievement considering the high level of competition and the challenging conditions of the course. This experience has undoubtedly provided them with invaluable exposure and learning opportunities that will aid their development in the sport.

These achievements underscore Calday Grange Grammar School’s growing reputation in the cross-country running arena. We can now proudly assert that we have one of the best cross-country teams in the country. The dedication, perseverance, and talent displayed by our athletes are a source of immense pride for our school community.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the students who participated, their coaches, and everyone who supported them in this journey. Their success is a reflection of the hard work and team spirit that is consistently nurtured at Calday.

As we celebrate these achievements, we look forward to continued excellence and more such inspiring performances from our athletes in future competitions. Go, Calday!
