On Wednesday 1 st Feb, the Calday school running club took two teams to the prestigious King Henry VIII Relay Race in Coventry. This race started in 1972 and is now regarded by many as the best inter- schools Cross Country Relay Race in the UK.
The Boys’ Race is 6 x 2.3 miles and schools enter their best runners, regardless of age. The event allows pupils to compete with the best of their peers from across the UK and it has a strong legacy, with former competitors of the calibre of Seb Coe and the Brownlees.
The top 4 teams receive a trophy and medals.
Calday A team came 4 th (narrowly missing 3 rd place by only 12 seconds) and so were awarded the Matthew Lee Cup.
The B team (which included year 7 and 8 runners) came a very respectable 39 th out of 46 teams.
On the day, Alex Poulston (Y12) ran the 10 th fastest lap.
Congratulations to the other Wirral schools who took part, St Anselm’s (5 th place) and Upton (3 rd place girls).
