The 9th World Kungfu Championships commenced in Emeishan City, Sichuan Province, China on the 25th August 2023. The event attracted 6,649 participants including athletes and coaches from 53 global destinations. They assembled in Emei to showcase their abilities, learn, and promote camaraderie through martial arts. Often dubbed the “Wushu Olympics”, the biennial World Kungfu Championships is presently the premier and most impactful sporting event in the global wushu arena.
Dominik Liu, year 11, is a member of the Great Britain Wushu Team. He is also a multiple time British Champion, two times European Champion and has achieved 7th place in Indonesia at the 8th World Junior Wushu Championship in 2022.
In August 2023, Dominik competed at the 9th World Kungfu Championships in the straight sword category and won the bronze medal.
He also competed as part of the Great Britain Wushu Team in a group performance. The team placed 4th overall.
